In Greater New York, the Army serves the neediest communities in 14 counties – including Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn, Long Island City, Long Island, and the Lower Hudson Valley.
The employees of The Salvation Army in New York live and work in the communities they serve. When a blackout occurs, they can lead Police and Fire Departments to the elderly and infirm. When a neighborhood floods, they know the way in, the way out, and who needs the most help. This local knowledge is another aid in the Army in its mission to Do the Most Good.
The Salvation Army in Greater New York has many locations over the 14 counties we serve:
* Operations are run from Divisional Headquarters at 120 West 14th Street in Manhattan. The Divisional Commander, Major Guy D. Klemanski, and his staff of officers and non-Army pofessionals see to the health of the division through financial management, fundraising, communications and more.
* There are 39 corps community centers: places for worship, community life, program and assistance. Each center is run by one or more Salvation Army officers - also called pastors or corps officers - assisted by other Salvation Army staff and volunteers. The programs at each center are unique to each location. They reflect the needs and richness of the communities they serve.
* The division has county development offices in Suffolk County, Nassau County, and the Hudson Valley.
* Two residences - The Markle and The Willams - provide housing for women and seniors in New York City.

The Salvation Army battles against poverty, addiction and homelessness. The Army feeds starving children and families through recovery from natural disasters, and more. They are a kind face to comfort the sick and elderly, a wise spirit to support the education of all ages, and a giving heart to address need wherever it occurs.
Through our Nassau County Service Extension Office in Mineola and our community centers in Freeport, Hempstead and Westbury, the Army last year offered more than 33,000 individuals a range of programming, including emergency assistance, computer instruction, senior citizens services, youth programs and day care services. Through our Adult Rehabilitation Center and Therapeutic Foster Boarding Home, we are able to offer substance abuse treatment and foster care services as well.
Salvation Army Thrift Stores in New York City
Goods donated to The Salvation Army are sold in our Thrift Stores in order to support our adult rehabilitation programs. Anyone who has ever struggled with addiction can tell you that a long-term, 12-step program can help you toward a stong recovery. And anyone who has ever tried to find such a program can tell you that affordable programs are few and far between.
At Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers, the 6-month program is free. Your donations of goods and purchases at our Thrift Stores makes this help available to those who desperately need it - but for whom it is too frequently out of reach.
